Pumpkin Shell Preschool was founded in central Norman in 1988. In August 2010 we started school in our brand new building. With our high quality teachers, unique hands-on curriculum and enduring traditions, Pumpkin Shell has become a central part of Norman's early childhood education community, and voted The Best Preschool in Norman in 2014.

A typical day includes many opportunities for growth and exploration. Preschool is about getting children excited about school and learning. We accomplish these goals through direct sensory experiences. Each day your child will be exposed to new and exciting hands-on centers as well as focused group time to assist them in exploring the world they live in. With a teacher/student ratio of approximately 1:8 your child will be given the attention they need to thrive.

Learning is Fun ! We strive to provide the bridge between home and starting elementary school by partnering with parents to introduce children to school in ways that ignite their curiosity about learning while maintaining a developmentally appropriate play-based school environment.

2.5-3 year old program

In this program your child will work on fundamental life skills, basic academic concepts, and establishing routines. Children also learn how to be a friend, how to make a friend, confidence and what it looks like to be in school.
3-4 year old program

The 3 and 4 year old program focuses on building basic academic concepts as well as developing appropriate social skills. Focused attention is given to strengthening fine motor skills. Recognizing their name, numbers, and colors are usually mastered in this class

As the final year of preschool, our 4 and 5 year old program builds on the basic skills previously learned as well as pre-reading skills through stimulating instruction and engaging hands-on activities. Phonics, Alphabet Skills, and Comprehension are core features of this class
